Non Resident Alien

This is a chronicle of my tragi-comic life as a foreigner in the United States. My official status when I started school in 2004, was that of a Non-Resident-Alien and that's where the title of the blog is from. My status has changed to Resident Alien since then. My personal experiences are a unique roller coaster mundane everyday experiences for locals, but unique from the eyes of a foreigner. I started this blog to share some of my experiences beginning my third year living in this country.

Battlestar Disappointica!!!

The fourth and the final season of Battlestar Galactica, which I so eagerly waited far in spite of the writer's strike and other delays has been a big disappointment. The season premiere which I had high hopes for was a crushing disappointment, and since then only one half of one episode was even barely interesting. Forget being better than other episodes in other seasons, it does not even stand up on its own. If this was the first season on BSG I would not have continued watching it. So why do I continue watching it? I do not know, I guess I still have the hope that things will turn around for the better as the season progresses. In the meantime, I am not wasting my time eyes peeled to the telly Friday nights at 10. I do other stuff as well, which is kind of sad, cause I had freed up my friday night schedule completely so that nothing takes me away from my favourite Scifi show. Sigh! So much for all the build up and suspense and waiting!!! This is how exciting it is now!!

Weekend Getaway

A dear friend invited me to house sit for her this weekend. I am now experiencing the joy of living in an actual home as opposed to dorms and other living conditions. It feels great to live in an actual house with different levels, furniture, front and back yards, patio and tons of birds to keep me company. I have been here since last evening and am already completely relaxed and de-stressed. Its as if the rest of the world, especially school, does not exist. I stayed up late in the patio just listening to the sounds of night. I could not see too many stars, but it was a pleasant night. This morning, I did some light yard work early, and now I am in the patio with a nice cup of coffee and my laptop watching birds flock to the bird feeder and chirp from the trees all around me. I am a farm girl at heart and this is the kind of life I want, not the hustle of city life. Good bye worries! Hello life!!
