Non Resident Alien

This is a chronicle of my tragi-comic life as a foreigner in the United States. My official status when I started school in 2004, was that of a Non-Resident-Alien and that's where the title of the blog is from. My status has changed to Resident Alien since then. My personal experiences are a unique roller coaster mundane everyday experiences for locals, but unique from the eyes of a foreigner. I started this blog to share some of my experiences beginning my third year living in this country.

Goodbye Filmore

Filmore my dear Goldfish found a new home today. The past few weeks I realized that I have been unable to care for him at all. I have had no time to clean his tank and no time to spend with him or even be able to feed him on time. He was also too big for the little 5 gallon tank he was in. In stead of subjecting him to more humiliating experiences with me, I decided to give him away to a nice gentleman who owns 15 tanks and has a pond where Filmore will live with other friends like himself. I am sad to see him go, but am happy that he will have a better life at a better home. Goodbye Filmore!! Have a happy life.

Being politely booted out!!

Sigh!! My landlord is selling the house and I am house hunting again. I would have made better plans if I had been informed that he had plans to sell the house. However, less than a month and a half ago when I signed my lease I was told nothing about this plan and even now the only reason I even found out was cause I saw the FOR SALE sign outside the house, and asked him about it, and even then I did not get a straight answer. The other roommates and I all have 6 month rental contracts. None of us were informed of the intent to sell and were not asked if they could show the house to potential buyers. We all feel that our privacy is being violated. I am mostly frustrated cause I have already done several small home improvements in this house and was planning some more. Besides, I just moved and had planned to stay here for at least a year if not until I graduate. This throws a big wrench in all my plans. Back to hunting for a house again.
